One Day at Disneyland - 6 July 1999

As a part of a summer drive cross-country with Scott's parents to visit family in southern California, we made a one-day visit to Disneyland on July 6th, 1999. We left our relative's house in the Glendale area that morning, drove over to Anaheim and checked into the Fairfield Inn across the street.

Scott's parents weren't really interested in going to the park, so it was just the two of us that crossed Harbor Blvd and entered the resort. I found a copy of the guidemap and a ticket in our memory box: the One Day Passports cost $39.00 each.

We almost always head to the left when we visit the Magic Kingdom, so it wouldn't surprise me if we did the same in Disneyland. We have a photo of the Back Side of Water, so we must have gone on at least one Jungle Cruise, and I'm fairly sure we rode the Indiana Jones Adventure (still being presented by AT&T), even though we weren't much for thrill rides at the time. Tarzan's Treehouse was new that summer, though I kind of doubt we visited.

Then again, we may have headed to the right instead to visit New Tomorrowland - we rode Rocket Rods at least once, and Scott thinks we went twice.

We also have photos of some sort of automotive exhibit hosted by GM- there's an EV1 on display - I can't recall if this was a part of the Rocket Rods queue or part of Innoventions. We have a photo from the Star Tours queue, so we definitely went on that attraction. It looks as if we rode the monorail as well, as we have a photo of the Matterhorn taken from above ground level.

Rocket Rods Queue? Or GM Exhibit?

GM Exhibit - probably in Innoventions?

We headed back to Fantasyland at some point - am pretty sure we took a Wild Ride with Mr. Toad, as that's one of Scott's favorite attractions. We at least took a photo of it's a small world and probably sailed on the happiest cruise as well. We spent time in Toontown, enjoying the architecture and the attractions - Scott's also a big fan of Roger Rabbit (and Jessica!). I don't remember if the Jolly Trolley was actually running, and we're a bit big for the Bounce House or Treehouse!

We may have headed back to Critter Country to visit the Country Bear Playhouse, but probably skipped Splash Mountain. I'm almost certain we visited the 999 Happy Haunts at the Haunted Mansion - the photo of the exterior shows the park as fairly crowded. I can't imagine we would have skipped Pirates of the Caribbean while we were in this part of the park, but have no photos. I can't recall how much time we spent in Frontierland... we may have braved Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (I told you were were thrill ride wimps at the time!), but I can't recall if we traveled the Rivers of America in either the Mark Twain or the Columbia. I don't think we visited much with the characters, either- we don't have any photos of ourselves with them, just a couple of princess candids - Belle and Snow White.

I can't recall if we watched any of the shows or parades besides the fireworks at 9:30 - since we don't have any photos of Fantasmic! I kind of doubt we saw it (we were probably in line for Rocket Rods!). Regardless, we had a wonderful time - it was interesting to compare the two parks and we figured we would have to come back someday.
